Tuesday Urban Farm Happenings (goat video)
The last four weeks of a does pregnancy requires certain vaccinations and delivery preparations. One of those deliver preparations is giving the doe a "birthing trim." Today, Michael gave Storm and Marie their trims. Our friend Pami took this video and I think she's still laughing about it.

Growing Sweet Potatoes and Sweet Potato Casserole
One of the best things about farming is meeting wonderful people like Jill and her husband Hal. I'm sure you remember Jills Jam?
Jill is a wealth of gardening information (hint hint) and one of her older blog posts {here} will tell you all about how to grow sweet potatoes . . . so that . . .you can make this (below) Sweet Potato Casserole in time for the autumn holidays! Our farm will definitely be growing a ton of sweet potatoes this year. Did you know how that they're very high in calcium?
Ingredients:
5 medium size sweet potatoes. boil and mash - should be around 3 cups. Mix with the mashed sweet potatoes:
2 eggs beaten
1/2 c - 3/4 c sugar
1/2 stick of melted butter
1/2 t. nutmeg and cinnamon
1 c milk (we use whole/organic milk)
mix this together - well.
place in a buttered 9x12 inch pan and bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees.
the topping:
3/4 crushed cornflakes
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1/2 c brown sugar and 1/2 stick of melted butter Mix this and spread over the top of the baked casserole. then bake for 8 - 10 minutes
AND THEN.......smile and enjoy!
