My First Egg

Yesterday we sold out of ALL - I mean ALL our eggs. Michael even took a few of my fresh stash from the kitchen because our market lovers kept coming and I kept having to apologize that we'd sold out.  One new market lover came with her two little girls - so Michael even took her and her two littles to the hen house and took them right out from under the girls - an experience, hopefully, those two little ones will remember.

Today, Michael came in with a big basket of part of yesterday's loot and this mornings. With a big grin on his face he said, "My first egg."  When a hen starts her life on egg production her first eggs are tiny.

Today, someone started doing what she was created to do. . . lay one egg every 26 hours.

I Can't Call Them Fresh Eggs Because . . .

. . . some FDA government regulation from somewhere has secured the "fresh and local" adage for some government egg production factory somewhere . . . .

But . . . you gotta know that our eggs are fresh and they are local and so, Michael says to call them:

Farm House Eggs

So, once again - we'll have wonderful, perfect, eggs of all sorts of colors - blue, brown, light brown, speckled, dark brown, white, green, etc.....at our Market Store - this Tuesday. 

And, guess what?

None of them have been dipped in lye!

Farm Fresh Eggs

If you've never had a FRESH egg from the farm, then you're missing out.  There's nothing else like it.

Just about every week we'll have dozens of our wonderful farm fresh pastured eggs for sale at $5.50.  Stop by Tuesday morning for your fresh dozen or two or three.

We do NOT wash our eggs in lye or anything else (they'll be 'stuff' on them) and we'd suggest you also NOT wash them until you're ready to use them.  We keep our eggs on the counter for several weeks and they remain fresh. You can do the same OR you can also put them in the refrigerator.

In Another Month Or So These . . .

. . .will be back at the farm. Purchase your farm fresh eggs directly from us. $5 per dozen. Can't get any better than that.  Eggs will be available at our Tuesday Farm Market as well as other days through out the week. Interested in eggs? We're thinking it should be the beginning of February and we can hardly wait.

Beautiful Eggs

These days eggs are a valuable commodity and we are happy that our 43 hens are will provide that which is a good thing for life.

We have 43 hens here at The Simple Farm and statistically we should be gathering about 40 eggs a day. But, as life would have it - it's been hot and when it's hot no one really likes to work real hard and that has included our girls.

All that said, we appreciate our loyal egg lovers and thank you for your patience in hanging in there with us as we too wait for cooler days and egg production to pick up.

That being said, we'd been taking egg orders while at the market so that people who want them can reserve them.

At times, it's gotten a bit confusing. We hold eggs for someone and they doesn't show up until market closing time.  Or I can't remember the face of the person I promised the eggs to or like today we're told they might not be coming every week.  That puts us into another quandary.

Now, that being said, we're not going to reserve eggs any long except for the two committed egg customers - one man driving all the way from Troon just to the market for our eggs and the other faithful wife and mom who loves our eggs.

We imagine that perhaps this might make some people a tad upset, but being what it is - eggs will be available on Saturday morning at the market on a first come first buy basis. When production increases, we'll announce the opportunity to buy eggs mid-week from our market store here at the farm.
